In this cross-sectional study, authors assessed the health conditions and lifestyle habits of CHWs in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Researchers conducted interviews and clinical evaluations of 262 CHWs. Following evaluations, researchers found that study participants had high rates of chronic conditions, such as pre-diabetes, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. Additionally, researchers found a high prevalence of antidepressant usage. Of concern, 40 percent of participants had three or more comorbidities. The results of this study highlight the physical and emotional implications of working as a CHW. Moving forward, this suggests a need for greater attention to be given to providing adequate support and health services to CHWs.
