Mobile health (mHealth) applications for community health workers in low- and middle-income countries: A scoping review

by

Authors: Chak Charoensilpchai, Zoljargal Lkhagvajav, Anne M. Turner

This review looked at how smartphone and tablet health applications are being used by Community Health Workers (CHWs) in low- and middle-income countries. It found that these tools can improve CHWs’ confidence and support their work, but many applications do not connect well with national health information systems and can create extra work through repeated data entry. The study concludes that digital tools should be designed to work with existing health systems, reduce unnecessary workload, and support CHWs in providing care rather than simply monitoring their activities.
