‘Our village is dependent on us. That’s why we can’t leave our work’. Characterizing mechanisms of motivation to perform among Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) in Bihar

by

Authors: Syed S Wahid, Wolfgang Munar, Sharmila Das, Mahima Gupta, and Gary L Darmstadt

This study aimed to identify factors that inspire Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in India. The results highlight the importance of self-empowerment, adequate financial compensation, and connection to the community’s health system as a few motivating factors for ASHAs. Conversely, implementation and management challenges are sources of ASHA discontent.
