by

Authors: Benjamin Palafox, Alicia Renedo, Gideon Lasco, Lia Palileo-Villanueva, Dina Balabanova, and Martin McKee

Community health workers (CHWs) are well positioned to play an essential role in the COVID-19 response. The authors of this paper discuss the success of CHWs in the Philippines, highlighting the substantial integration as a critical part of the healthcare workforce which has allowed CHWs to significantly support COVID-19 mitigation efforts. The authors further emphasize that CHWs need training in emergency preparedness to ensure they have the skills and support to respond when needed.
