This study reviews literature from 2000-2023 to explore the role of Community Health Worker (CHW) programs in reducing maternal mortality in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). CHWs have shown promise in increasing antenatal care, facility-based deliveries, and postnatal follow-up, thereby contributing to maternal health improvements in countries like Nepal, Ethiopia, and Malawi. However, effective implementation requires comprehensive training, logistical support, integration into health systems, community involvement, and tailored incentives. Challenges include supervision, resource shortages, referral coordination, and sustainable financing. Context-specific program models and multistakeholder commitment are essential for addressing these implementation barriers.
