Level of Community Health Worker’s Involvement in Yellow Fever Surveillance in the North West Region of Cameroon

by

Authors: Ngem Bede Yong, Gerald Ngo Teke, Nguemaïm Ngoufo Flore, Loveline Lum Niba

Yellow fever surveillance is key for spotting outbreaks early, but in Cameroon’s North West Region, Community Health Workers (CHWs) play a limited role in this process. From 2021 to 2024, out of 427 suspected cases, only 8 were reported by CHWs, showing just 2% community involvement. This low rate points to the need for better CHW integration, training, and support to strengthen community-level monitoring and improve yellow fever outbreak response in the region.
