Jordan Community Health Country Brief

by

Authors: UNICEF

Jordan, located in the Middle East with a population of about 11.5 million, has maintained stability and growth despite regional challenges. The country has a strong healthcare system, with services provided by the Ministry of Health, Royal Medical Services, university hospitals, and the private sector. Healthcare for Palestinian refugees is also provided by UNRWA. Insurance programs cover about 56% of the population. While the 2008 Public Health Law doesn’t directly mention community health, it addresses health promotion and disease prevention. The Ministry of Health oversees community health efforts, including immunization, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases. Paid health promoters and unpaid Community Health Volunteers are key to these efforts, working through community health committees under the Ministry.
