“It Spreads Like Wildfire”: Mothers’ Gatherings for Vaccine Acceptance

by

Authors: Diego de Acosta, Temple Moore, Fariha Stein, Sarah J. Hoffman, Megan Keaveney, Erin Mann, Elizabeth Dawson-Hahn

This case study highlights an initiative aimed at increasing COVID-19 vaccine confidence and uptake among refugee and immigrant women in Clarkston, Georgia. The project, called Mothers x Mothers, was developed by Refugee Women’s Network and IDEO.org. It involved community health workers (CHWs) who were actively involved in every stage of the project, from design to evaluation. The initiative included gatherings where mothers could discuss health issues in a supportive environment, with the goal of providing accurate vaccine information. As a result, 75% of unvaccinated participants chose to get the COVID-19 vaccine after attending these gatherings.
