In this cross-sectional analysis, researchers in India studied how interpersonal communication influences the quality and delivery of care and information concerning breastfeeding by Anganwadi Workers, or AWWs. Researchers surveyed 3,266 mothers and children from two Indian states and recorded quality of care using a 7-question survey. Women who reported more respectful care from an AWW were more likely to recall the appropriate health messages. Additionally, respectful care was associated with better breastfeeding outcomes, such as exclusive breastfeeding. This study demonstrates how strengthening CHWs’ ability to provide respectful care can affect health knowledge and outcomes.
