In Pakistan, lady health workers (LHWs) play a crucial role in providing maternal and child health services but face low pay and heavy workloads. To help them better connect with and support their patients, the researchers created a training program based on local art and literature aimed at enhancing their empathy, communication, and compassion. This program was tested with 48 LHWs in Karachi over 12 weeks in 2021. After the training, LHWs showed significant improvements in empathy and communication skills. They also gave positive feedback about the training, finding it useful and satisfying. This approach, which uses local cultural elements, effectively boosted important personal qualities in LHWs, leading to better support for their patients.
