Community health workers (CHWs) can help improve patient engagement in HIV care. This study examined experiences of HIV clinics and health departments in Mississippi and New Orleans that integrated CHWs to address HIV disparities. Interviews with clinic leaders and staff revealed that CHWs were valued for their role in keeping patients engaged in care. However, challenges arose, including limited access to health records, unclear roles, and issues with funding and contracts that affected CHW job stability. Successful integration requires not only CHW training but also educating clinic staff on CHW roles, as well as reliable, flexible funding to support these positions long-term.
