The Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) initiative in Ghana faces several challenges in delivering maternal and child nutrition services in rural Northern Ghana. This study, conducted in April 2019, involved interviews with the municipal nutrition officer and Community Health Officers (CHOs) from eleven CHPS zones to identify bottlenecks and strategies for improvement. Key challenges included inadequate logistics, lack of staff training, insufficient supervision, and lack of financial support at the municipal level, as well as poor planning, inadequate home visits, lack of staff commitment, and insufficient community engagement at the CHPS zones. Proposed solutions include better provision of logistics, frequent staff training, increased supervision, financial incentives, improved planning, more home visits, and enhanced community engagement. Addressing these systemic issues at both the municipal and CHPS zone levels is crucial for improving maternal and child nutrition services.
