The purpose of this paper was to present the accounts of participants from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia regarding the implementation of EXIT-TB, and suggestions for scaling up the initiative. EXIT-TB is an evidence-based, multiple focus integrated intensified TB screening package in the East African region, aimed at increasing TB case detection and the number of patients receiving care. A qualitative study design was utilized to gather insights from purposefully selected healthcare workers, CHWs, and other stakeholders. The results demonstrated that the EXIT-TB project contributed to increased TB case detection, improved detection of multidrug-resistant TB, reduced delays and waiting time for diagnosis, and improved decision-making among CHWs. These findings suggest that programs like the EXIT-TB package may be an effective strategy to increase TB case detection, reduce delays in TB treatment, and increase the overall work capacity of healthcare workers and CHWs.
