How much is Invested in Community Health in the Central African Republic? Sustainable Financing for CHWs Is Critical to Achieving Universal Health Coverage (Policy Brief)

October 1, 2025 By

Authors: Gloire Mongue Kossepe (Ministry of Health and Population, CAR) & Birindabagabo Pascal

Without sustainable domestic investment, the Central African Republic’s Community Health Strategy cannot reach its full potential — and the most vulnerable communities will remain underserved.

This policy brief explores how much funding is needed to implement community health services nationwide, where current resources come from, and what practical steps can strengthen domestic financing while reducing reliance on external partners. Addressing these questions is essential to closing CAR’s community health funding gap, reducing health disparities, and building a resilient, nationally led system aligned with Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.
