In this study, researchers investigated how gender impacted CHW experience in Mozambique. Researchers used the PIERS on the Move, or POM, mHealth application to collect data. In total, 43 CHWs participated—72 percent identifying as female. Overall, female CHWs were more likely to report an increase in knowledge and confidence from the use of the POM application. Additionally, authors found that female CHWs were more likely to report feeling valued and respected by community members. This study suggests that gender differences impact CHW experiences in Mozambique, particularly in regards to patient relationships.
