Community health workers (CHWs) often serve patients in low-income communities with high tobacco use rates, but current tobacco cessation trainings don’t fit their needs. To address this, researchers gathered input from CHWs and program leaders to design a tailored training. Key needs included learning strategies to motivate patients, personalize care, and engage those not ready to quit smoking. The training would include motivational interviewing and role-playing to help CHWs support patients effectively.
