This study explores the implications of a church-based community health worker (CHW) intervention to reduce blood pressure among African Americans. Interventions included support and strategies to improve diet and medication adherence. Results from the study included a mean change in systolic blood pressure of -5 mm/Hg, an increase in medication adherence at follow-up, and a slight decrease in diet adherence. A church-based CHW intervention may be effective at reducing blood pressure in African Americans, but may not have a positive influence on diet.
