Healthcare and Social Needs of Older Adults in Underserved Urban Communities: Insights from Community Health Workers

by

Authors: Arkers Kwan Ching Wong, Tianyi Liu, Luna Ziqi Liu, Jonathan Bayuo, Xingjuan Tao, Frances Kam Yuet Wong

This study looked at the challenges older adults face in a low-income district of Hong Kong and how community health workers (CHWs) support them. Many seniors struggled with poor housing, chronic illness, mobility issues, and limited access to healthcare. CHWs played an important role in offering support but faced problems like heavy workloads and little training. The study suggests improving CHW training, financial and digital literacy programs, and better healthcare access to improve the well-being of older adults in underserved urban areas.
