Gestational diabetes knowledge improves with interactive online training modules

October 14, 2024 By

Authors: Petra Krutilova, Roxann Williams, Rebecca Morey, Carole Field, Veronda Byrth, Melissa Tepe, Amy McQueen, Cynthia Herrick

Women with gestational diabetes (GDM) have a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but diabetes education is often lacking. To address this, four online training modules were created for nurses and community health workers. A pilot study measured changes in knowledge, confidence, attitudes, and intentions to recommend diabetes prevention before and after the training. Among those who completed the modules, significant improvements were seen in GDM knowledge, confidence in providing diabetes education, attitudes about tight control, and intentions to recommend diabetes prevention. The training was effective in enhancing support for women with GDM.
