In Togo, community health workers (CHWs) help provide basic healthcare to people living far from health centers. This study looked at where CHWs are located and their backgrounds. It found big differences in CHW coverage across regions, ranging from 1 to 15.5 CHWs per 10,000 people. Most CHWs are men, around 41 years old, and many work in farming, except in the capital region where women working in retail are more common. A small number of CHWs are housewives without other jobs. The study suggests that more attention is needed to improve CHW distribution, gender balance, pay, and work conditions.
