In 2018, the Financing Alliance for Health produced a series of fact cards providing key information on health landscapes, financing, and community health systems across eight countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Sierra Leone.
Up until the Ebola outbreak of 2014, Sierra Leone was on track to attain middle-income classification. As of 2018, Sierra Leone faced a weak government, high unemployment, and rampant corruption. Following the election in 2018, the first since the United Nations’ exit in 2014, the Sierra Leonean government prioritized increasing revenue, strengthening financial management, and restoring economic control.
