This study in rural Nepal tested whether female community health volunteers could help adults prevent and manage high blood pressure. Thirty-four volunteers led group sessions covering blood pressure checks, healthy lifestyles, taking medicines regularly, and referrals for people needing further care. The program was successfully taken up by all participating health facilities, and many adults took part. After three months, participants had better knowledge about high blood pressure and were more likely to take their medicines as advised, but there was no clear improvement in blood pressure levels. The study suggests that community health volunteers can play a useful role in hypertension care, although longer and more sustained support may be needed to improve blood pressure control.
