This study in Eastern Uganda explored the feasibility of Village Health Teams (VHTs) in screening for hypertension (HTN) among adults. Trained VHTs successfully screened 5,215 individuals, revealing a 22.4% prevalence of HTN. Their blood pressure measurements showed high agreement with health professionals. Despite this, only 23.8% of those identified with HTN accepted referrals to health centers. Enhancing community trust in VHTs’ screenings is crucial for improving referral rates and addressing HTN effectively at the community level.
