This review looked at what shapes how rural communities view the services provided by community health workers. After analyzing studies from 15 countries, three main factors stood out. First, how services are delivered; such as availability, access, and quality; strongly affects perception. Second, trust matters, including whether community members see CHWs as competent and able to keep information private. Third, identity and culture play a role, such as whether the CHW is from the same community or shares similar background traits. The findings show that improving training, strengthening trust, and making services more responsive to community needs can increase acceptance and use of care in rural areas.
