This study explored what motivates community health workers known as ASHAs in Uttar Pradesh, India. Interviews showed that they are driven by gaining new knowledge, helping their communities, feeling respected, and becoming more confident and independent. Supportive supervision, proper training, and financial incentives also play an important role. However, delayed payments and limited training reduce motivation. The findings suggest that timely pay, strong support, and good training are key to keeping ASHAs motivated and effective in their work.
