This study examines the performance motivations and barriers affecting the effectiveness of community healthcare workers (CHWs) like ASHAs, ANMs, and AAWs in urban slums of Noida-Greater Noida, India. Using surveys and focus group discussions, it finds that despite being overworked and underpaid, CHWs show high performance motivation rooted in factors like morality, religion, and autonomy. However, barriers such as lack of recognition, inadequate support, and limited resources impact their effectiveness.
