This study in Bangladesh explored the experiences and mental wellbeing of community health workers serving rural and underserved communities. Twenty workers shared their experiences and identified heavy workloads, poor working conditions, shortages of medicines, limited training, low and irregular pay, job insecurity, and little opportunity for career growth as major sources of stress. NGO workers also faced demanding targets and extensive travel. Despite these challenges, many workers remained motivated by their role in helping their communities and relied on family support, savings, and other income sources to cope. The study calls for better pay, regular training, supportive supervision, and stronger mental wellbeing and career support for community health workers.
