In South Africa, around half a million people live with epilepsy, affecting many families and caregivers. This study examined the knowledge and support healthcare providers offer to these families. Fifteen participants from Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces were interviewed, including community health workers, nurse practitioners, and auxiliary nurses. Data analysis identified two main themes: epilepsy knowledge and epilepsy support and counseling, with subthemes including the psychosocial impact of epilepsy, epilepsy-related training, and counseling and support. The study highlighted a gap in professional capacity building and suggested that better training for community health workers could improve the quality of life for those affected by epilepsy.
