This study sought to explore the experiences and challenges involved in using CHW-led disclosure support mechanisms among adults living with HIV (ALHIV) in heterosexual relationships in rural Uganda. A qualitative design was utilized, involving in-depth interviews with CHWs and ALHIV facing HIV disclosure difficulties to sexual partners in the greater Luwero region. Results of this study demonstrated that HIV disclosure is an important strategy in HIV management, and that adequate counseling and support to those intending to disclose can be instrumental in encouraging successful disclosure. However, fear of negative disclosure outcomes was identified as an outstanding barrier. Still, CHWs were viewed as more effective in supporting disclosure relative to  routine disclosure counseling. These findings suggest that CHW-led disclosure mechanisms are acceptable and useful in supporting HIV disclosure among HIV-affected sexual partners in rural settings.
