Examining the Preliminary Effectiveness on Knowledge of a Tobacco Cessation Facilitator Training for Community Health Workers

by

Authors: Tianqu Lu, Anna Veluz-Wilkins, Andres Mauricio Garcia Sierra, Dedeepya Konuthula, and Marcia Tan

This study looked at how a special training program called C.H.A.N.G.E. helped community health workers (CHWs) in Chicago improve their knowledge about helping people quit tobacco. The program focused on serving people with low incomes, who often have less access to support. Before the training, CHWs knew little about tobacco cessation, but their knowledge improved a lot afterward and stayed strong months later. The improvement was the same no matter what kind of clients the CHWs served. The study shows that tailored training can help CHWs better support people in quitting tobacco, especially in underserved communities.
