Examining extreme weather event preparedness, response, and recovery among community health workers in Negros Oriental, Philippines: A qualitative study

September 21, 2024 By

Authors: Beggs, Bridget Elizabeth

This study looked at the role of community health workers (CHWs) in helping communities during extreme weather events in the Philippines. CHWs, trained by International Care Ministries, were interviewed to understand how their responsibilities and personal experiences affected their ability to support communities. The study found that CHWs’ ability to help during disasters was shaped by their past experiences, their priority to protect their families, and their willingness to assist others. It highlighted the importance of considering CHWs’ own challenges when preparing them for disaster response and recovery.
