Evaluation of the fidelity of community health workers to the international guide for monitoring child development (GMCD) in Guatemala

by

This study examined whether Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Guatemala could use the International Guide for Monitoring Child Development (GMCD) to assess and support young children’s development after six days of training. Among the 36 CHWs assessed, overall performance was 72%, with better results during the initial steps and lower performance in follow-up activities. Education level did not significantly affect their performance. The findings suggest that CHWs can use the guide effectively after training, but more support is needed for follow-up activities. This approach could help expand early childhood development services in areas with limited access to care.
