In this study, researchers sought to determine the impact of promotoras de salud, or CHWs, on atopic dermatitis (AD) management in Latin American communities in Texas, United States. Forty-nine children with moderate to severe AD were identified and enrolled in the study. Twenty-four caregivers were assigned to the standard education group, which received in-clinic education and a Spanish educational booklet. In the treatment group, 25 caregivers underwent the same protocols as the control group, but also received promotora-led education. Following analysis, researchers determined that caregivers in the treatment group were more likely to feel confident in administering AD care. Overall, this study demonstrates that CHWs have the ability to offer useful education to caregivers involved in disease management in Latin American communities.
