This study explored how women in two rural communities in Mali accessed free audio health messages via mobile phones and identified barriers they faced. The research included focus groups and interviews with community members, revealing that women trusted health information from various sources like radio and community centers. Community health workers or agents were also cited as a source of information disseminated during home visits, during women’s gatherings or upon request. However, challenges like cost, poor network access, illiteracy, and cultural restrictions limited their use of mobile health messages. Based on these findings, the study offers recommendations to improve the effectiveness of future health information campaigns for women in remote areas.
