This study explored ethics and professionalism among community health workers (CHWs) in Tamil Nadu. It found that CHWs often went beyond their duties to help the community. Their approach to decision-making varied from shared to paternalistic. While aware of privacy and confidentiality, these topics were not widely discussed. CHWs’ work reflected societal norms of gender, class, and caste, and they navigated power struggles with creative solutions. The study highlights the need for a clear code of ethics and training to better equip CHWs for ethical decision-making.
