Community Health Workers (CHWs) are vital in managing outbreaks through tasks like health education and contact tracing. A pilot project trained 766 Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Wakiso district, Uganda, on epidemic and pandemic preparedness, including COVID-19. A year later, an evaluation revealed that the training improved CHWs’ knowledge and skills in managing outbreaks, boosted their confidence in educating communities about prevention, and led to better health practices like hand washing and vaccination. The CHWs also enhanced their performance through door-to-door visits and support for chronic disease patients. The findings emphasize the importance of ongoing training for CHWs to effectively respond to outbreaks.
