Climate change is already harming people’s health, especially in poorer and vulnerable communities, and these impacts are expected to get worse. Community health workers (CHWs), who are trusted and closely connected to their communities, are well placed to help people prepare for and cope with these challenges by sharing clear information, supporting individuals with health needs, and linking them to local services. However, many CHWs do not yet have the training or support needed for this role. The article argues that investing in CHW training, fair pay, and stronger policies can help them play a bigger role in protecting communities and reducing health risks linked to climate change.
