This study tested a new mobile app called Extension Essentials to train Health Extension Workers in rural Ethiopia. The app allowed workers to learn offline in multiple languages, combining digital lessons with some in-person training. Results showed that learners spent about three hours a day using the app and completed most activities. Their knowledge and skills improved as much as those in traditional training, while costs were 39% lower. The study suggests that blended learning can be an effective and affordable way to train health workers in remote areas.
