- he purpose of this study was to see how engaging men could transform gender norms and power relations in the context of nutrition and parenting programs. The study included testing the independent and combined effects of engaging couples and bundling nutrition and parenting interventions with gender equality and women’s empowerment (GE/WE), by having CHWs deliver hybrid peer group/home visit gender-transformative behavior change programs. The results of the study indicated that both the gender-transformative approach to engaging fathers and couples (promoting positive fatherhood and equitable intimate partner relationships) as well as the inclusion of parenting sessions focused on responsive caregiving, positive discipline, and play and communication contributed in different ways to the advancement of GE/WE across empowerment domains. Further, the study highlighted that CHWs can deliver bundled nutrition and parenting interventions to couples in low-resource community settings that advance GE/WE more than nutrition interventions targeting only women.
