This review examined 30 studies involving more than 15,000 people to assess whether community health worker (CHW)-led programmes can help reduce the risk of heart disease and related conditions among vulnerable populations. The findings showed that these programmes helped lower blood pressure, with some small improvements in weight and blood sugar levels, but did not significantly reduce bad cholesterol. The benefits were more noticeable in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa. However, the strength of the evidence varied, and the results were not consistent across all settings. The study suggests that CHWs can play an important role in preventing heart disease, especially in low-resource settings, but more high-quality research is needed to confirm their impact.
