This study aimed to investigate the use of a validated screening tool in identifying epilepsy cases. More than 300 CHWs from 114 villages in northern Rwanda were trained to use the Limoges questionnaire, a validated epilepsy screening test. Ultimately, 281 CHWs screened community members in more than 100 villages, and identified more than 1,300 possible cases of epilepsy. Following screening by a neurologist, a new clinical diagnosis was confirmed for 589 individuals. The results of this study demonstrate how CHWs may use screening tools to quickly identify and mobilize people with epilepsy.
