Effectiveness of a Community Health Worker-Driven Intervention in Improving the Quality of Life of Caregivers of Children With Disability in Rural Karnataka, India

by

Authors: Sakthi Arasu, Deepthi N. Shanbhag

Community health workers (CHWs) play a crucial role in healthcare delivery, particularly in resource-constrained areas. In Karnataka, India, a study assessed the effectiveness of a CHW-driven intervention in improving the quality of life (QOL) of caregivers of children with disabilities. The intervention involved structured health education and training provided by CHWs. Results showed significant improvements in the physical domain of QOL and a reduction in caregiver burden. This underscores the importance of leveraging CHWs to reach underserved populations and improve health outcomes. Ongoing training and support for CHWs are essential for sustaining these positive impacts and expanding similar interventions in the future.
