June 22, 2022 By

Authors: Daniel Palazuelos, Lassana M. Jabateh, Miry Choi, Ariwame Jimenez, Matthew Hing, Mariano Matias Iberico, Basimenye Nhlema and Emily Wroe

Community health workers (CHWs) are an essential part of the health workforce and are integrated throughout health systems. Partners In Health (PIH), a nongovernmental organization, incorporated the “household model” (HHM) in 3 countries where larger health care system strengthening partnerships already exist. The HMM was deployed in Liberia, Mexico, and Malawi to address different health system goals, and were adapted to local realities and pressures. PIH found that it was possible to adapt the core principles of the HHM across different contexts by utilizing a methodical approach and operational judgment.
