This pilot study describes an adapted Community Health Worker (CHW) training for individuals in the Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) community interested in supporting diabetes self-management education. Three participants completed an extended 22-hour training program designed specifically for (American Sign Language) ASL communication needs, which included adapted training videos with closed captions and ASL-interpreted quizzes. Feedback highlighted the importance of diabetes-specialty nurse support and the challenge of small font sizes in closed captions. Despite these challenges, the study shows the feasibility of CHW training tailored to DHH individuals, emphasizing the need for ASL-delivered content and accessibility improvements in online platforms like Zoom.
