Development of a framework for community health workers to contribute to interprofessional learning teams

by

Authors: A Joubert, M Reid

The study aimed to create a framework to help Community Health Workers (CHWs) effectively join and support interprofessional teams working on diabetes care in South African rural communities. Using a theory-based approach and input from various discussions and reviews, a draft framework was developed and validated by experts. The final framework focuses on equipping CHWs with the necessary knowledge and skills about diabetes to improve their contribution to these teams. This led to an evidence-based training program designed to enhance CHWs’ abilities and teamwork in managing diabetes.
