This study reviewed 37 economic studies to assess whether Community Health Worker (CHW) programmes provide good value for money. Most studies found that CHW programmes were cost-effective, with 84% reaching this conclusion. However, many studies had weaknesses, including limited data, poor testing of their models, and not fully accounting for the wider benefits of CHWs. The authors recommend better-quality research using reliable local data to provide stronger evidence for decisions about investing in CHW programmes.
