Community health workers providing asthma education

by

Authors: Samantha Shaak, Kimberly Brown, Christine Reichart, David Zimmerman

In this study, researchers investigated the efficacy of a home-based CHW intervention for children with asthma in Pennsylvania, United States. During the study, CHWs provided educational materials and resources to families with children with mild, moderate, and severe asthma. Overall, 81 families participated in the intervention over a six-month period. After pre- and post-test analysis, researchers found increased asthma knowledge, fewer school absences, and fewer days with asthma symptoms. The results of this study suggest that a CHW-led intervention may be successful in addressing childhood asthma.
