In this case study, authors describe the work of community health workers in a predominately Hispanic Chicago community that experienced disproportionate rates of COVID-19 infection. Through semi-structured interviews with neighborhood CHWs, researchers collected and qualitatively analyzed data related to CHW roles, motivations, and actions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the results, authors present recommendations for CHW workforce development and policies to strengthen the health care and public health systems.
