Low- and middle-income countries have experienced a further decrease in the availability of already scarce mental health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors of this article argue that community health workers (CHWs) are well-positioned to provide mental health services at the community level, but have not been fully supported to do so. They suggest that with enhanced training, CHWs can provide necessary mental health services to their communities in a cost-effective manner that lifts the strain off healthcare systems.
