This rapid review explores the feasibility of community health workers (CHWs) administering vaccines to expand immunization access in under-reached communities. It identified 23 CHW cadres in 20 countries administering vaccines, facing challenges like inadequate training, supply chain issues, and heavy workload. To enhance immunization coverage, countries should ensure CHWs receive proper support, supervision, and integration within health systems. With only a fraction of CHWs currently administering vaccines, task-shifting to CHWs could address immunization gaps, especially crucial amid healthcare workforce shortages and the COVID pandemic. Further systematic documentation is needed to establish best practices for CHWs as vaccinators.
